Water Resources & Non-Point Source Program
Atchison County Conservation District will accept applications for cost-share
funds during April of each year for the following practices: diversion, grassed
waterway, subsurface drain, terrace, underground outlet, water & sediment
control basin, septic system upgrades, plugging abandoned water wells, and soil
testing.
All applications will be prioritized according to the threat to water quality, and
must meet the following eligibility requirements:
Cost-Share funds are not available for practices started before approval of the
cost-share application.
The State Conservation Commission provides funding for the Water Resources
Cost-Share Program (WR) and the Non-Point Source Pollution Control Program
(NPSPCP) from the Kansas Water Plan Fund.
All programs and services of the conservation district are available to anyone
without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, or handicap.
Landowners and operators that have been approved for an Environmental Quality
Incentives Program (EQIP) contract need to be aware of the work that is planned
for the upcoming year. With more and more EQIP contracts, it is getting extremely
difficult getting all of the work done in the fall or winter. In Atchison County there
are not enough contractors to get all of the scheduled work completed each year
if we only depended on the fall and the winter to complete the work.
It would be a tremendous help if producers would plant a few acres of wheat or
oats where they plan to do the work to allow us (NRCS) more time as well as the
contractors. In order to get the EQIP contracts completed, it is going to require
good communication between the landowners, the operators, NRCS, and the
contractors. We have the EQIP contracts in place; now let’s get the work on the
land.
